Oil on gessobord.
Over the past few weeks, my son has been learning how to ride his bike without training wheels, so it makes sense that my latest obsession is painting bike parts. I don’t know much about the mechanics of bikes, but these shapes are interesting, fun, and challenging to paint! Capturing the way sunlight bounces off of the metal pieces of chain and spokes is especially enjoyable, and an important aspect of portraying the shapes correctly.
I’m also playing around with my backgrounds. When I was setting the ground for this painting, the paint went onto the board and immediately reminded me of a piece of wood. So, I’ll be experimenting with that for at least a couple paintings in this series.
