Backyard Dancing Partners

I spent Sunday morning out in my backyard painting these “dancing partners.”  While I was outside, a lovely variety of neighborhood birds provided me with a great soundtrack!  I heard mourning doves, cardinals, grackles, song sparrows, chickadees, and a red-winged blackbird.  Or maybe there’s a mockingbird out there, just messing with me…I’ll have to watch and see!  Anyhoo, the weather was perfect for a little plein air painting, and it made me so happy to be outside, doing something I love.

I started this one the other day, before I started intentionally painting quickly…I almost didn’t finish it, but went back to it to see what would happen.  Not my favorite, because I found myself fussing over it too much!  But I like comparing and trying different painting styles, so here it is.

I had to paint fast with this one because the light in my dining room changes quickly as the day moves on!  I think I’ll try one more like this tomorrow because being forced to paint fast meant fewer brush strokes and less fussing…hopefully the tulips will hang around another day for me!

Flowers from My Guys

My guys gave me a beautiful bouquet of tulips over the weekend, so I’ll be rearranging and painting them this week. Thanks, Pete & Kai!  The fun part with this one was trying to capture the way light and shadows were playing off of the glass and the water…a little tricky!
